Program tool 9. Is your centre safe and activity-friendly?

Indicate wet floors with proper signs.

Encourage members to remove their wet footwear at the front door and bring dry shoes.

If floor surfaces are slippery, a carpet or rubber runner in the hallways and non-slip mats can help to minimize risk of falling.

You can purchase runners and non-slip mats at your local hardware or department store.

Replace torn or worn mats.

Tape mats to the floor if needed.

Check mats to ensure no ripples or tears.

Have one of your members responsible to inspect and report hazards to you on a weekly basis.

Check furniture used by members to make sure it is sturdy. Do this on a regular basis, for example, every season.

Replace unsafe furniture.

Identify strategies to help raise fund for sturdy chairs.

Secure a firm foam pad to the seat of the chair with velcro to make it higher.
