"I couldn't hear what the instructor was saying."

"I don't like the programs offered."

Provide participants with feedback opportunities- written or verbal-so they can express their likes and dislikes about a program.

Give the instructor or organizer the feedback. Then, follow through on the feedback to make the program a positive experience for all participants.

Find instructors who are aware of older adults' interests and needs.

Have guest speakers and demonstrations of activities to show how easy it is for older adults.

Try-it-out sessions can ease people into activities.

"I don't speak the language well enough to understand."

Find helpers, translators, people who speak the language.

Use other communication strategies: pictures, videos.

"It's just not my cup of tea."

"I just don't like that class."

Find out what people are interested in!

Include fun, friendship (and food if appropriate) at each activity.

Provide opportunities for feedback about the program's intensity, style, location, time etc.
