Program tool 10 - Is your neighbourhood safe and activity-friendly?

Check off each item that applies to your neighbourhood.

Sidewalks
checkbox There are sidewalks in our neighbourhood.
checkbox Sidewalks are wide and level, with no cracks or holes.
checkbox Sidewalks are clear of obstructions.
Crosswalks and intersections
checkbox Pedestrian crossing lights at crosswalks and intersections work.
checkbox Audible beeping is used at crosswalks and intersections
checkbox Our members can get across the street before the light changes.
checkbox On wide roads, there is an island in the middle to wait for the next light.
checkbox There are Elderly Persons Crossing signs within two blocks of our centre in both directions.
checkbox Curbs have ramps at crosswalks.
checkbox Drivers give pedestrians the right of way at crosswalks, stop signs and stop lights.
Traffic
checkbox There is space between the sidewalk and the street.
checkbox Drivers obey the speed limit.

Stairs and ramps

Winter Safety

Benches

checkbox Benches are secured to the ground and do not move when you sit on them.
Buses
checkbox There is a bus stop within two blocks of our centre.
checkbox There is a bus stop on the same side of the street as our centre.
checkbox There is a bus shelter with a bench at the bus stop.
checkbox Bus drivers usually wait until passengers are seated before moving.
Personal safety
checkbox There are enough people walking around to provide help if members need it.
checkbox Our neighbourhood is safe from crime.
checkbox Trees or bushes that could get in the way of our members are kept trimmed.
checkbox There are public phones our members can use in case of trouble.
checkbox Our neighbourhood is well lit at night.
checkbox There are houses and stores to go to in case of trouble.
checkbox Dogs are properly controlled by their owners.
Attractiveness
checkbox Sidewalks and streets are free from trash.
checkbox Trees or flowers make walking pleasant.
checkbox There are benches where our members can sit and take a rest.
checkbox There are public washrooms that our members can use easily and safely.
checkbox Trees, awnings, and bus shelters give protection from sun, rain and wind.
checkbox Our members can get a drink at a water fountain.
