About us

The Community Health Research Unit (CHRU) is a health system-linked research unit. It is one of 8 system-linked research units currently funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health. First funded in 1989, the CHRU is based on a long-standing collaboration between the City of Ottawa Department of Public Health Services and Long Term Care, and the Department of Epidemiology and Community Medicine and the School of Nursing, University of Ottawa.

The research unit works as a partnership between the University of Ottawa and the City of Ottawa Department of Public Health Services and Long Term Care, to enhance the scientific basis for public health practice through the development of new knowledge, and through fostering of evidence-based practice. The research agenda focuses on understanding, measuring, and testing elements of public health essential to effective practice.
